In A Nutshell

I’m a 20-something recent graduate, trying to improve my health, fitness and body image.

After losing and gaining back – and then losing again – about 14 pounds in the last year or so, I’m on a quest to kick the yo-yo dieting and get healthy once and for all.

So I’ve ditched the junk food and started exploring the world of whole grains, tofu and Green Monster smoothies. I’ve swapped lazy evenings in front of the TV for runs and sessions at the gym. And I feel great!

Don’t get me wrong – I’m far from perfect. I’m constantly learning, changing, messing up and starting over. I still have issues with food andย body confidence.ย I find it really hard to resist chocolate and cake. And I still struggle to run more than a mile.

But I’m making changes to my lifestyle and I’m seeing differences. For me, improving my health and fitness isn’t something I’m going to achieve overnight. It’s a long journey. And I’m just getting started.

I love the concept of making small changes. Small changes have a ripple effect, i.e. one thing leads to another, and another… I’m making small changes too and it’s working for me.

Hi Sam, Just dropped by after seeing your comments elsewhere. I applaud you for making healthier changes to your lifestyle and can’t wait to read more about your journey. I blog about a similar topic but I have a thyroid condition that has killed my metabolism so I’m trying to keep the weight issue all in perspective to what I can and cannot accomplish.

I am also interested in getting a glimpse of life in England from your blog.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I can’t wait to check out your blog too. Thanks for your comment as well, it’s nice to know people are reading! If you have any questions about England (or anything for that matter), feel free to ask :).

Hey, I just found your blog. I definitely relate to you with eating. Even after losing some weight, I still wasn’t eating that great (lots of “diet” foods and processed stuff). I’m now trying similar things to you – whole grains, green smoothies and exploring vegetarian eating a couple days a week. It’s amazing how good you feel when you eat nutritious, clean foods eh? Keep it up & I’ll be checking back ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for your message Valerie, I agree completely. A lot of my weight loss journey involved low-fat yoghurts, heavily processed cereals and ready-made meals. I was so focused on calories, I didn’t care what the ingredients were. Now I’m trying to maintain, I’m shifting the focus on to eating good, nutritious foods. And like you I feel so much better! I’m eating way more vegetarian stuff too interestingly.

Hey I just spotted your blog on “Oh She Glows”. Your description sounds very similar to mine!! I have been gaining and losing the same 15 lbs for about 2 years now and it is completely frustrating. I too am trying to clean up my diet and stick to a consistent workout routine.

Good luck and feel free to check out my blog (sorry for the shameless plug).

I just found you on OSG too and thought I’d stop by, since I too have learned SO much from food blogs! I lost 35 lbs and while losing weight was “easy”, I needed help figuring out how to maintain my healthy weight. Food blogs were my saving grace! Looking forward to following along with yours!

Hi Sam! Thanks so much for stopping by my little blog. I love the name of your blog, “small changes add up….” That’s a great approach, and so true! I look forward to following along ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Hi there!! I just found your site through Thinspired and I totally know where you’re coming from in terms of yo-yo dieting. It is SO frustrating and taxing on your mental health, but I’m with you on this journey to maintain! I recently read a book called “Health at Every size” that makes me scared that i’ll fall into the majority of people who don’t maintain the weight loss, but hopefully sharing and learning from blogs like yours will keep me on track too! ๐Ÿ™‚
